UMD, USM union members rally for promised annual wage increases amid rising costs

Nearly 50 union members from across the University System of Maryland marched down Route 1 on Friday morning, demanding contracted pay increases as inflation continues to rise.

Many members were from the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 1072 — a union that represents 4,200 employees at the University of Maryland. They first gathered outside the university system Board of Regents’ monthly meeting on Friday.

“You signed it, now fund it! You signed it, now fund it!” the union members chanted outside the meeting.
