UMD will use reserve funds to cover mandated raises for union employees

University of Maryland President Darryll Pines told faculty and staff in an email Tuesday that while the university is in the process of implementing recently-negotiated pay raises for union employees, administrators will continue to evaluate the change’s effects on university finances.
University employees represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees will soon see higher wages after the University System of Maryland and Gov. Wes Moore last week made an agreement with the union to implement merit increases.
